[englisch, zu to prevent »verhindern«] der, -s/-, Bohrtechnik: Sicherheitsarmatur an Bohrlochanlagen, um z. B. bei Eruptionen das Bohrloch gefahrlos verschließen zu können. Mit Gestängepreventer kann das Bohrloch nur geschlossen werden, solange sich das Bohrgestänge noch im Bohrloch befindet, Vollabschlusspreventer dichten das Bohrloch bei entferntem Gestänge ab, und mit Universalpreventer kann auch bei geschlossenem Bohrloch noch eine begrenzte Strecke weitergebohrt werden.
